How is Temperature Control important in Friction Stir Welding, and how does Bond Technologies’ equipment support it?

Home Faq How is Temperature Control important in Friction Stir Welding, and how does Bond Technologies’ equipment support it?

Temperature control is a critical factor in friction stir welding (FSW) because maintaining optimal heat levels ensures consistent weld quality, minimizes distortion, and maximizes joint strength. Accurate temperature control during the welding process helps maintain the integrity of the weld, especially when joining materials with varying thermal properties.

Bond Technologies addresses this need with the BondStir family of temperature measurement systems. These systems enable precise temperature data collection and, with optional software, closed-loop control during FSW. The T128 device, for example, collects data from any K-type thermocouple and transmits it wirelessly to a remote base station for real-time monitoring and logging. When integrated with Bond welding systems, the T128 can record temperature data directly into the built-in datalogger. The behavior of the machine can than be changed in order to get the desired temperature. This robust temperature control capability enhances the accuracy and reliability of FSW processes, particularly in demanding manufacturing environments.
