What does an aircraft welder do, and what skills are required?

An aircraft welder, also known as an aviation welder or aerospace welder, is a highly specialized welding technician who fabricates and repairs aircraft and spacecraft components using various welding techniques, ensuring the structural integrity and safety of these vehicles.  Their work must meet strict aerospace standards for quality and safety, as even minor imperfections in a weld can affect performance or structural integrity during flight.

Aircraft welders typically work with lightweight, high-strength metals like aluminum, titanium, and stainless steel. They are trained in specialized processes such as TIG welding and Friction Stir Welding, depending on the application. In addition to technical welding skills, aircraft welders must be familiar with aerospace specifications, inspection protocols, and documentation procedures required in regulated environments.
