What is Friction Extrusion and how does it work?

Friction Extrusion (FE) is a solid-state materials processing method that uses friction and plastic deformation to generate heat and soften material without melting it. The softened material is forced through a die to produce wire, rod, tube, or other extruded forms. FE can process solid billet as well as powders, chips, and other feedstock.
