History of Bond Technologies

The Bond Technologies team, innovators and global leaders in Friction Stir Welding (FSW) and solid-state processing technologies.

Pioneering Friction Stir Welding Since 1999

Although Bond Technologies was established in 2014, the engineering team behind the company has been advancing Friction Stir Welding (FSW) technology since 1999.
What began as a small engineering team with deep expertise in aerospace tooling has evolved into one of the world’s leading developers of Friction Stir Welding, Refill Friction Stir Spot Welding (RFSSW), Friction Extrusion (FE), and other advanced solid-state processing technologies.

Today, Bond Technologies designs and builds custom friction welding and processing systems that help manufacturers solve complex joining and material processing challenges across aerospace, defense, automotive, rail, shipbuilding, electronics, research, and other advanced industries.

1999–2003

The Foundation

The story began in 1999 when Tim Haynie founded Transformation Technologies, Inc. (TTI), an engineering services company specializing in aerospace tooling and advanced manufacturing solutions.

As Friction Stir Welding emerged as a revolutionary manufacturing technology, the team quickly became involved in some of the industry’s earliest commercial applications.

2003–2008

Early Leadership in Friction Stir Welding

TTI established itself as an early leader in Friction Stir Welding by taking on ambitious engineering projects, including the design of work-holding fixtures for the Eclipse 500 aircraft, one of the first production aircraft built using Friction Stir Welding.

Between 2003 and 2008, the engineering team developed a complete line of Friction Stir Welding systems and expanded its customer base across four continents, earning a reputation for innovative machine design and practical manufacturing solutions.

2008–2014

Expanding Engineering Expertise

As the Friction Stir Welding business continued to grow, the engineers behind TTI gained additional experience designing increasingly advanced systems while expanding its capabilities in controls, automation, manufacturing, and global customer support.

This period strengthened the team’s technical expertise and reinforced its commitment to advancing Friction Stir Welding technology through practical engineering innovation.

2014-Present

The Birth of Bond Technologies

In 2014, the original TTI technology leaders established Bond Technologies to create a company dedicated exclusively to Friction Stir Welding and solid-state processing technologies.

Building on more than a decade of experience, Bond combined proven machine design philosophies with continued advancements in controls, automation, and process technology. The company has continued supporting legacy Friction Stir Welding systems while developing next-generation equipment for research, development, and high-volume production.

Today, Bond Technologies serves customers worldwide with engineering expertise spanning custom machine design, tooling, process development, automation, controls integration, service, and long-term technical support.
