At Bond Technologies, we are committed to advancing the production of railcars through our state-of-the-art Friction Stir Welding (FSW) technologies. Our expertise in large format Friction Welding machines enable us to offer superior solutions for the manufacturing of railcars, focusing on the unique demands of high-speed railcar production and the use of complex aluminum extrusions.
FSW has emerged as a key technology in the production of high-speed railcars, known for its ability to produce high-quality welds in aluminum alloys, which are often sourced from complex extruded products. The process is celebrated for its accuracy and repeatability as well as the superior strength it imparts to welded joints, making it an ideal choice for the demanding requirements of railcar manufacturing.
Understanding the diverse needs of the railroad industry, Bond offers a range of specialized machines designed to address specific high-speed railcar manufacturing challenges.
Engineered for the unique demands of the railroad industry, The LS Series offers modular design and high-efficiency welding capabilities for large linear welds. Ideal for railcar manufacturing, the LS Series can be customized with extended X-axis strokes by adding base sections, maintaining machine stiffness and flexibility. Available with upper-only or dual upper and lower weld heads for dual-sided welding, it excels in applications like hollow extrusions. Combined with Bond’s part management tooling and tailored material handling and clamping systems, the LS Series ensures exceptional throughput, productivity, and weld quality for rail car components.
The GG Series is designed for the complex welding needs of the railroad industry, featuring multi-axis motion to accommodate three-dimensional welds on curved panels. With a five-axis design and high structural stiffness, the GG machines ensure wider process tolerance and enhanced weld quality. This capability has made the GG Series the preferred choice for high-speed rail system manufacturers, offering an ideal solution for welding intricate train bodies and large-scale rail components with precision and reliability.
The GL Series is designed to meet the demands of high-speed rail car production. These machines provide a large work envelope and multi-axis welding head positioning, ideal for handling complex extruded components. The GL Series ensures precise, reliable welds, making it the perfect solution for manufacturing advanced railcar structures.
Our Custom Special Purpose Machines address the unique welding and manufacturing needs of the railroad industry. Tailored for large, complex rail components, these machines ensure precise, high-quality welds for train bodies and structural elements. With customizable configurations and tooling, Bond delivers flexible solutions that enhance productivity and meet the demands of modern railroad manufacturing.
Our LS Series and GG Series machines are specifically designed to meet the diverse needs of railcar production. The GG machines are multi-axis capable, for curved panels and complex geometries. The LS machines are available in lengths from 4 meters and up, in 2 meter increments, for both single and dual-sided welds. All machines include advanced controls that support in process monitoring and advanced data collection, to maximize productivity.
The GL Series and Custom Special Purpose Machines complete Bond’s lineup for the railroad industry, both handling large work envelopes and complex components. The GL Series is ideal for high-speed railcar production, offering multi-axis welding for precise, reliable welds. Custom Special Purpose Machines cater to unique rail manufacturing needs, providing flexible configurations and tooling for large, intricate components to boost productivity.
Work holding tooling can also be critical to achieving maximum productivity. Often, the time taken to remove welded parts and set up the next set of parts can be greater than the actual time spent welding. Bond has developed material handling systems that work in concert with the FSW process to minimize non-productive setup time and maximize overall equipment efficiency.
Our FSW machines are specifically designed to handle the intricacies of welding complex aluminum extrusions, crucial for the modern railcar industry.
Whether it’s the high-speed requirements of modern rail or the varied applications within a single railcar, our machines offer tailored solutions.
