Engineering Excellence in Friction Welding and Processing: Your Partner from Concept to Production

Deeply Invested in Your Success

Our experienced engineering team is adept at leveraging the fundamentals of Friction Welding and Processing. Our knowledge lets us precisely manage the intricacies of Friction Stir Welding (FSW, ) Friction Extrusion (FE), and Refill Friction Stir Spot Welding (RFSSW). With a keen focus on materials science, we examine how materials change after being softened by friction, exploring their new characteristics and possibilities. Our approach ensures we can innovate and apply these materials in ways previously unimagined, unlocking the full possibilities of each project.

At Bond, we are not just experts in our field; we are dedicated partners to our clients, committed to supporting every phase of project development—from the initial idea to final product delivery and beyond.

Materials Science

Process Development

Tailoring solutions for FSW, FE, and RFSSW, including mechanical testing to ensure optimal welds and material performance.

Prototype Welding Services

Advising on design modifications for enhanced weldability, producing prototypes, and designing welding fixtures to streamline the path to production.

Technology Training

Sharing our expertise in friction-based processing through comprehensive training programs for your team, covering everything from equipment operation, programming, maintenance and safety.

FSW Transition to Production

Facilitating a smooth production ramp-up with startup support services, welding procedure optimization, and ongoing support. Bond shares your goal of technical and financial success, and stays engaged until that goal is achieved.

FSW Tooling Expertise

Creating custom welding tools designed for efficiency and reliability. From work holding design to Friction Stir Welding Tools, our tools enable precise, repeatable production processes.

Materials Science

Materials science is integral to everything we do at Bond Technologies. Our clients rely on us for our in-depth materials science knowledge. By comprehensively understanding how materials behave under the influence of frictional heat, we can innovate and apply FSW processes that exceed expectations — and meet the needs of advanced manufacturing and production environments. Our expertise in materials science is not just a part of our work—it’s the cornerstone of advancing friction welding technologies like Friction Stir Welding (FSW).

In the realm of Friction Welding and Processing, materials science plays a pivotal role in:

  • Predicting how materials will respond to frictional heat
  • Tailoring processes to the unique properties of each material
  • Enhancing the performance and durability of the final product

Process Development

Bond develops procedures using in-house welding systems, or in collaboration with customers that operate Bond FSW systems. After developing tool designs and process parameters, we are able to validate material properties, tooling requirements, cycle time expectations and other information that helps clients prepare for scaleup to production. In our laboratory, we conduct design of experiments, produce weld procedure specifications and documentation that is openly shared with clients in order to support the most successful path forward.

  • Process development for FSW, FE, and RFSSW
  • Mechanical testing of welds and materials
  • Welding tool design and testing
  • Designed experiments to optimize process parameters

Prototype Welding Services

Optimizing a product design for weldability is a service that Bond can help with. Our process experts can suggest product design changes to improve weldability. We can also design and build welding fixtures as needed to weld prototype parts or to confirm a joint design. We can even produce parts to allow a customer to do performance testing of prototypes before committing to a production launch.

  • Design consulting
  • Welding fixture design and construction
  • Production of prototype parts

FSW Technology Training

Bond employs FSW process experts who have worked with FSW since the early days. This extensive experience can be made available to Bond customers in the form of process technology training for management, quality inspectors, manufacturing engineers, maintenance personnel and machine operators. Both standard modules and customer training programs are available to help customers build competency in FSW.

FSW Transition to Production

Transitioning from prototype to full-scale production is a critical phase in your project’s lifecycle. Bond offers FSW consulting to help with welding procedure optimization, machine operation, technology training, and quality control support, for example. Bond can also assist with supplying welding tools on a regular basis.
